SR KYA EPPS DOMINATES THE STATE FINALS WITH TWO NEW STATE RECORDS!

Sr. Kya Epps not only captured two Gold medals, she also set TWO state records! Kya started the day off by setting her first state record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.57. She then anchored the ladies 4 x 200 relay team to a 5th place finish. Kya wasn’t done yet! She also anchored the ladies 4 x 100 relay team to an 8th place finish. For her grand finale, she then torched the field in the 200 meter dash by setting another state record with a time of 23.81 enroute to her 2nd Gold medal.

Kya was not alone. The Lady Irish had a great weekend. As a team they finished in 5th place. Here were the podium places:

Sophomore Nye Kimble: 8th place in the 100 m, 4th place in the 200 m, member of the 5th place 4 x 200 and 8th place as a member of the 4 x 100 m relay.

Sophomore Malaya Young was a member of both 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relay teams.

Sophomore Annie Bame rounded out the 4 x 200 relay team. Junior Ilana Boykin was part of the 4 x 100 relay team.

The guys were involved in three events at the state finals and all three events stood tall on the podium. The guys were led by Sr Blake Sifferlin in the Pole Vault were he finished in 3rd place with a leap of 15’6″.

Sophomore Calil McCray finished in 8th place in the 400 m dash. He was also part of the 4th place 4 x 400 relay team. His teammate were: Fr Mahki Pritchett, Soph Nasir Madison and Sr Dhiren Brickman.

When the weekend was concluded, the Irish came down in 11 events and earned a medal in 9 of the events! Congratulations

All of these events will be on display on the ” WALL OF HONOR” in the Cosgrove Building.
